How do you start the Kokko ceramic kamado?
The Kokko ceramic kamado offers quick and effortless lighting every time.
Step 1
Open the lid of your Kokko, remove the stainless steel grill, then place 3 to 4 sheets of newspaper crumpled into balls at the bottom of the Kokko on the black cast iron plate. For greater efficiency, you can add one or two firelighters.
Step 2
Arrange your charcoal around the newspaper and firelighters. Light the newspaper with a match or a gas lighter and let it burn for 40 to 60 seconds before closing the dome.
Step 3
Now, close the lid and gently open the chimney and the bottom vent of the Kokko. With optimal airflow, your charcoal will be ready in just a few minutes.
Step 4
Open the lid about 5 minutes after lighting and once the firelighters have burned. The charcoal will start to glow red, meaning it’s hot and ready—time to start cooking!
Step 5
With the stainless steel ash tool, you can stir your coals and distribute them evenly inside the Kokko when needed.
Step 6
You can now control the heat by adjusting the airflow through the chimney and/or the lower vent. For multiple cooking sessions, you can also add more charcoal if needed.
