Seasonal delights: what’s on the menu this summer?

Produits de saison : on mange quoi en été ?

Summer vegetables

Pepper, tomato, aubergine, courgette, fennel: can you smell the irresistible aroma of Provençal ratatouille? Also add to your summer menu artichoke, carrots, broccoli, Swiss chard, celery, porcini mushrooms, lettuce and green beans. In July/August, make room for sweetcorn, white onions and garlic, which, from September, will be replaced by cauliflower, leek, spinach, watercress, potatoes and button mushrooms.

Summer fruits

During the summer, fruit delights us all day long. While cherries, blackcurrants and mangoes are still available in July, throughout the summer we enjoy blueberries, raspberries, figs, plums, grapes and melon. In July and August, focus on apricots, watermelon, redcurrants, as well as peaches, nectarines and flat peaches. In August, make room in your cart for mirabelle plums, and in September, for blackberries.

Summer cheeses

Summer cheeses, what a treat! The animals, grazing in the open, feed on grasses and flowers that give their milk a powerful aroma. Soft cheeses are particularly flavoursome at this time of year. Indulge in Brie, Munster, Livarot, Camembert, Maroilles, Époisses, Chaource, Langres, Pont-L’Évêque or Coulommiers. In addition to cow’s milk cheeses, goat’s milk cheeses are also highly recommended in summer, such as Pélardon, Crottin de Chavignol, Cabécou, Chabichou du Poitou, Saint-Maure, Selles-sur-Cher, Rocamadour, or sheep’s milk cheeses like feta.
